Benefit Event and Awards Ceremony

International House Philadelphia will serve as the backdrop for a celebration of innovation across Greater Philadelphia. Event attendees will being the evening with unparalleled networking that will include Greater Philadelphia's Social Sector movers and shakers. The highlight of the evening will be the awards presentation the PUBLICLY nominated and selected leaders in social innovation across 20 categories. The evening will conclude with additional networking accompanied by live music, local fare and refreshments.


Awards Ceremony​


The 2018 Social Innovations Journal (SIJ) Awards will be a night to celebrate Philadelphia's regional visionaries and how they are changing the social landscape in Greater Philadelphia. It is an opportunity for the Philadelphia Region social sector agents of change to come together to honor the progress that has been collectively made and initiatives that serves as catalysts spurring further social innovation and impact. SIJ will honor the region's most passionate and accomplished social innovators and entrepreneurs and the work that they are doing to make Greater Philadelphia a more inclusive, equitable, and thriving region of opportunity for all residents. These awards will highlight the top leaders and organizations across the Greater Philadelphia Region.



​In bringing recognition to these individuals and organizations, we:


  • Promote a culture of bold thinking and problem solving;
  • Increase awareness and build a culture for social enterprise and entrepreneurship;
  • Assist award nominees and winners in telling their stories and strengthening their initiatives;
  • Build active participation from SIJ readers; and ​
  • Supports a growing community of entrepreneurs and innovators.



Awards Criteria


Criteria:  Any individual or organization can be nominated for a social innovation award; however, the award winner will be selected by the public from among those who best exemplify the tenants of social enterprise and innovative thinking. These individuals and organizations may work in the for-profit, governmental, or nonprofit space, and demonstrate a bold determination to solve social problems through innovative methods.

SECTOR:  Social Enterprise; Not-for-Profit; Corporation; Foundation; Higher Education; Government


INDUSTRY: Healthcare; Education; Community Development; Food Security/Healthy Food; Community and Behavioral Health; Arts and Culture


CIVIC LEADERSHIP: Human Rights; Anti-Violence; Race and Gender; Civic Engagement


CHANGE AGENTS: Environment; Social Enterprise; Public Policy  


Public Choice - Awards Process


Process:  The Social Innovation Awards will undergo the following process ultimately leading to the public announcement of the award winners at the 2018 Philadelphia's Social Awards Event:


  • Nominations (September-October) from more than eight thousand participants who voted in previous award cycles
  • Public Voting for five categories during each week of November. At the conclusion of this voting phase the top three Nominees in each category will be publicly announced.
  • Winners will be invited to write an article that will be published in an edition focused on the Philadelphia Region's Social Innovation Ecosystem.
  • Awards Ceremony to celebrate all nominees and announce the PUBLICLY selected finalists for each category will be held on January 24, 2018.
